This month GVST is taking the show on the road! April’s Gardening Essential class will be held at Fanick’s Garden Center, 1025 Holmgreen Rd San Antonio, TX 78220. This month’s theme is ‘Using Local Rebates to Redesign Your Home Landscape and Budget’
Session 1: “Right Plant for the Right Location”
Members of the SAWS Conservation Department, including Mark Peterson, will be on-hand to present the NEW SAWS Recommended Plant List and Rebate Programs, highlighting some of the plants’ characteristics, how they were selected, and how watersaver landscape designs can help provide beauty and save money. Additionally, GVST’s Karen Stamm, a Landscape Design School Consultant and Butterfly Garden specialist, will be there to provide a hands-on demonstration and guidance on plant selection and placement.
Session 2: “Proper Tree Selection, Planting and Care”
Members of the Alamo Forest Partnership, including GVST’s Rob DeRocher, Texas A & M’s Regional Community Forester Mark Kroeze, Etter Tree Care’s David Vaughan, and Beth Lettman and Tom Brotherman of CPS Energy will explain CPS Energy’s Green Shade Program and the benefits of the tree canopy for your landscape and energy bill in San Antonio. They will discuss how to properly select, plant and care for your tree, finishing with a hands-on tree planting demonstration. Additionally, City Arborist Mark Bird will be on-hand to answer questions.
